A hosting account is leased space on a computer connected to the internet. Your website's files are placed there so people can see your website. A hosting account also comes with e-mail service using your domain name, so you no longer have to send out e-mails advertising someone else's service.

What is disk space and bandwidth transfer?

Disk space is the size of the space that you are allotted for your website files and e-mail storage. Disk space can be compared to square footage in a house.

Bandwidth is used to transfer your website's pages and graphics to your viewer's browser and transfer files back and forth to your computer. Bandwidth can be compared to the electrical usage in a house.

You may have a small house (disk space), but a lot of people living there using a lot of electricity (bandwidth). Or conversely, a large house that stays dark most of the time. Your included hosting control panel monitors your allotted disk space, space used and bandwidth used.

Does my e-mail affect my disk space?

Yes, and to what extent, depends on how you use it. When you receive e-mail at your account, it is stored on your server. If you use MS Outlook (or any other computer based e-mail program) and have your settings set to not "leave a copy of messages on server", then they will be deleted from the server after you have downloaded them. If you do not make this adjustment, then they will continue to be stored on your server and increase the amount of disk space that you use until your total account allotment is full.

Also, if you use webmail and do not delete your messages after you have read them, then the same situation will occur. Your included hosting control panel monitors your allotted disk space and the space used for individual e-mail accounts that you have set-up.

Can I upgrade/downgrade my hosting plan?

Yes, if you later desire to upgrade/downgrade your chosen hosting plan, you may do so at any time from your administrative control panel.
